Apple’s Newest Software Provides Time Limits and “Curfews”

It can be challenging to keep your children from using their phones an excessive amount, or at inappropriate times. Apple has heard that complaint and taken it seriously. Apple’s newest iOS has an improved Parental Controls program. That program lets parents set time limits for their children overall for the day, and individually for a particular application. So, if you don’t want them to play their favorite game for more than 1 hour a day, you can now guarantee that will not occur. Likewise, you can set an overall limit of no more than say 2, 5, or 10 hours per day on their phone. Finally, you can set an actual curfew that will disable use of the phone for all but emergency calls.

iOS’ Find a Friend feature allows you to know exactly where your child’s phone is at all times. In the past,  one drawback to this feature was that your child was able to turn off that setting. Apple now has an option under the “screen time” settings that will let you disable your child’s ability to turn off your knowledge of where they are.
